Great Podcasts

20 Jul

iPods amd iPhones introduced Podcasts – a subscription based method of obtaining media content for your iDevices, which you could access at some convenient time, often on-the-go.

Podcasts are a fantastic way to keep up to date with topics of your choice, whether it be music, video or lectures. Let me share some of my favourites…

I am interested in many things, including philosophy and religious thought. We all ask the big questions about God, religion, Bible, reasons for living, ethics, etc. etc. There are as many views as there are people, however I would like to recommend to you some interesting talks, but first let me qualify what I like in a talk.

I don’t want “ra-ra” style hype, or lengthy drawn out introductions. Or speeches that try to exploit my emotions. What I like are calm, concise talks that stand up to scrutiny and are easy to follow and verify against other sources.

In light of these guidlines, let me recommend some great material to listen to. Just go in iTunes, to Podcasts, and search on the names below:

  • John Dixon – a contemporary Australian historian from Sydney, with a real gift in communication. MP3 download LINK

  • Simon Manchester
    – minister of St. Thomas’s Anglican Church, North Sydney, who can be hear on FM 103.2 on Sunday mornings at 8am. Simon presents the Christian message, clearly, calmly and challenges us to evaluate what he says with what’s written in the Bible. MP3 download LINK

I am sure that you will find their talks inspirational and challenging at the very least, and may even influence the way you view the world. Give it a go, and put a Comment on this article if you want to share your responses. If you mark your comment as “Confidential” the I’ll read it but not publish it. All comments need personal approval, so spam will never ever be seen by anyone – so don’t waste your time thinking of spamming comments.

Happy reading…
