Battery Replacements

30 Jul

This is really a post to myself to remember where to look for replacement re-chargeable batteries. They seem to have exceptional prices. I’ve just ordered a battery for my Bosch cordless drill today.

Here is the LINK for the e-Store.

Is this the best iPhad site?

29 Jul

A friend shared this site with me today. I make NO claim that this is good for you, but it sure has a ton of fascinating stuff for iPhones and iPads.

Apparently “jail breaking” your iPhone is not illegal in the US. It has been tested in US courts. There is however always a risk that you might wreck your expensive “toy”.

Warning: It is legal for you to jailbreak your device, but it is also legal for Apple to release an update that kills jail broken devices (I know this stinks, as you own the thing), but be warned!

Without further ado I point you to iHackintosh!

iPhad Emailing

25 Jul

I’ve just invented a new device: iPhad (it applies to BOTH the iPhone and the iPad) – such apps are denoted in the iStore with a + sign.

So, I am going to share my email setup on my iPhad, which I have worked out after days of digging. And before you think I am a complete Dummy, I wanted more than the “simple” setup, that everyone knows about.

The Challenge:

To send emails from an iPhad using my own registered domain.

    Great Podcasts

    20 Jul

iPods amd iPhones introduced Podcasts – a subscription based method of obtaining media content for your iDevices, which you could access at some convenient time, often on-the-go.

Podcasts are a fantastic way to keep up to date with topics of your choice, whether it be music, video or lectures. Let me share some of my favourites…

    How to handle Newsletters

    19 Jul

I have two types of Newsletters that I subscribe to.

    1. Material that I may refer to later and want to keep
    2. Material of a topical nature that I don’t always want to read, but certainly have no wish to archive

This article outlines my novel approach on handling email overload for the type #2 messages.

    Cloud computing

    15 Jul

Could computing is one of the buzz phrases of this year. It refers to keeping one’s data or programs on a web server, so that it can be accessed by different web connected devices. Web mail was the forerunner of this concept. I am testing some of the free and paid options for the iDevices that I use.

I have a desktop PC running Windows 7 64bit, a couple of Netbooks and a Laptop, plus an iPhone and an iPad. How do I keep information available on which ever I pick up without going out of my mind for ever syncing files? The answer is to use a cloud based product. But which one? They are all slightly different, but have a large overlap as well.

So began my Group Test trying to find the best solution(s) for my needs. Here are the products looked at:

    • MobileMe from Apple – US$99 annual fee, 60 day try out
    • Evernote - Free (basic) or US$45 annual for PRO
    • SugarSync - Free for 2GB, US$50 for 30GB storage

    My Favourite iDevice Apps

    13 Jul

I am frequently asked which are my favourite iPad/iPhone (a.k.a. iDevice) Apps. So I quickly run a set of screen captures of all Apps that I had played with and highlighted my favourites.

    HID – something for nothing!

    04 Jul
    Std versus HID

    Std versus HID

    HID Kit supplied by UprightWare

I had my BMW R1200RT motorcycle’s twin headlights converted to HID, this weekend. It is not often that one gets something for nothing, but due to the increased efficiency of HID lighting compared to standard halogen, one gets 200% of light output whilst consuming only 70% of electrical power. To me that sounds like a great deal! HID installation on BMW R1200RT on YouTube.
