Rec Levels for Zoom H4n Recorder

When recording live using a Zoom H4n, it is quite a challenge to set the recording level such that there is no clipping. I have a neat App on my iPhone 3Gs, called SPL Meter (Sound Pressure Level Meter), which provides a good VU meter display. So I set about creating some guide lines linking SPL to Rec Level.

Battery Replacements

This is really a post to myself to remember where to look for replacement re-chargeable batteries. They seem to have exceptional prices. I’ve just ordered a battery for my Bosch cordless drill today.

  1. Material that I may refer to later and want to keep
  2. Material of a topical nature that I don’t always want to read, but certainly have no wish to archive

I had my BMW R1200RT motorcycle’s twin headlights converted to HID, this weekend. It is not often that one gets something for nothing, but due to the increased efficiency of HID lighting compared to standard halogen, one gets 200% of light output whilst consuming only 70% of electrical power. To me that sounds like a great deal! HID installation on BMW R1200RT on YouTube.

Silverstone HDDBOOST

With the recent availability of the Silverstone HDDBOOST product, users can create their own hybrid HDD by combining a smallish fast SSD and a large rotating HDD into a single entity. This will give an effective huge cache that is maintained after a power off. The onboard firmware automatically manages what files to mirror to the SSD. It is a “learning” product that gets better as it watches what is being accessed frequently.
