Just installed the WordPress App on my iPhone which allowed this to be composed on the phone!

iPhone 4 – to upgrade or not, THAT is the question
Like many people that appreciate good technology, I have been waiting for the arrival of the iPhone 4. I am a late arriver to the iPhone phenomena, having bought my first iPhone, a 3Gs, less than 6 months ago.
Yesterday I got to handle an i4 (short for iPhone 4), for the first time at the George St. Apple store. So will I upgrade?
iPhone 3Gs GPS
I have just tested my iPhone 3Gs with TomTom App against my TomTom GO930 car GPS. Both devices were powered from the car 12V dc and were mounted side by side on the dash.
The iPhone showed “Weak GPS signal” most of the time, while the TomTom had absolutely no issues!
Conclusion: Don’t throw away your dedicated car GPS! The iPhone may be ok as a backup or when you are on foot and need to find some place, but it is definitely not in the same league as a dedicated device.
I shall repeat the comparison with the iPad versus the TomTom, in the near future…
Rec Levels for Zoom H4n Recorder
When recording live using a Zoom H4n, it is quite a challenge to set the recording level such that there is no clipping. I have a neat App on my iPhone 3Gs, called SPL Meter (Sound Pressure Level Meter), which provides a good VU meter display. So I set about creating some guide lines linking SPL to Rec Level.
Apple USB/SD adaptor for iPad
Or how to beat the eBay “sharks” that sell the Apple Camera Connection Kit for twice its price!
- The Apple Camera Connection Kit (CCK) should be a free accessory with every iPad, however we are stung for another $39 for the privilege of being able to connect a USB device (typically a camera) to our already expensive iPad. However I knew this when I bought into the Apple scene so I am not overly complaining, as the overall system is still to my liking.
What hurts more is that the CCK is almost always out of stock and even Apple’s own George St. shop can’t tell you when the next shipment is due or take any order reservation. To add insult to injury, there are people on eBay selling these at up to 2x the Apple’s already inflated price!
So what to do? I have the solution…
Is this the best iPhad site?
A friend shared this site with me today. I make NO claim that this is good for you, but it sure has a ton of fascinating stuff for iPhones and iPads.
Apparently “jail breaking” your iPhone is not illegal in the US. It has been tested in US courts. There is however always a risk that you might wreck your expensive “toy”.
Warning: It is legal for you to jailbreak your device, but it is also legal for Apple to release an update that kills jail broken devices (I know this stinks, as you own the thing), but be warned!
Without further ado I point you to iHackintosh!
Free case for iPhone 4
Apple has caved in to public out cry and is offering a choice of free cases for the iPhone 4:
iPhad Emailing
I’ve just invented a new device: iPhad (it applies to BOTH the iPhone and the iPad) – such apps are denoted in the iStore with a + sign.
So, I am going to share my email setup on my iPhad, which I have worked out after days of digging. And before you think I am a complete Dummy, I wanted more than the “simple” setup, that everyone knows about.
The Challenge:
To send emails from an iPhad using my own registered domain.
Great Podcasts
iPods amd iPhones introduced Podcasts – a subscription based method of obtaining media content for your iDevices, which you could access at some convenient time, often on-the-go.
Podcasts are a fantastic way to keep up to date with topics of your choice, whether it be music, video or lectures. Let me share some of my favourites…
Cloud computing
Could computing is one of the buzz phrases of this year. It refers to keeping one’s data or programs on a web server, so that it can be accessed by different web connected devices. Web mail was the forerunner of this concept. I am testing some of the free and paid options for the iDevices that I use.
I have a desktop PC running Windows 7 64bit, a couple of Netbooks and a Laptop, plus an iPhone and an iPad. How do I keep information available on which ever I pick up without going out of my mind for ever syncing files? The answer is to use a cloud based product. But which one? They are all slightly different, but have a large overlap as well.
So began my Group Test trying to find the best solution(s) for my needs. Here are the products looked at:
- MobileMe from Apple – US$99 annual fee, 60 day try out
- Evernote - Free (basic) or US$45 annual for PRO
- SugarSync - Free for 2GB, US$50 for 30GB storage
